Beat the Swell campaign makes national news
Thursday, 15 January 2026

Lower limb swelling, affecting the legs, ankles and feet — is more than just an inconvenience. It can be a sign of underlying health issues and, if left untreated, may lead to serious long-term complications.

That's why our national Beat the Swell campaign was recently featured on Nine News, helping raise awareness of this common but often overlooked condition.

The story shared the personal experience of David Vickers, who spoke about the challenges he faced in trying to find the right help for ongoing leg swelling. His story reflects the reality many people experience when symptoms are dismissed or misunderstood. Clinician Stacey Bradshaw also appeared in the segment, urging people not to ignore swelling and explaining that simple, early steps can significantly reduce long-term damage. Watch it below.

"Early treatment of swelling and long-term management using the right compression can reduce the risk of repeat infections by nearly 80%", Mrs Bradshaw said. "So it's really important that people are seeking that care early."

The interview aired ahead of National Beat the Swell Day on 19 February, a national awareness day dedicated to shining a spotlight on lower limb swelling, its causes, and the importance of early assessment and care.
