A message from today's incredible Wound Awareness Week Partner Smith+Nephew
Wednesday, 3 September 2025

Every year, more than 450,000 Australians live with a chronic wound. Behind that number are people whose everyday lives are impacted: parents who can't play with their children, grandparents who lose independence, patients whose recovery is delayed. The reality is wounds are not just "skin deep". When left untreated, even a small cut, blister or surgical incision can become a chronic problem, leading to pain, infection and long-term complications.

At Smith+Nephew, we are committed to changing this story. Our purpose is to help people live their life unlimited, and that starts with wound awareness.

Supporting Wound Awareness Week

During Wound Awareness Week 2025, we are shining a light on Australia's hidden epidemic of chronic wounds and the steps we can all take to prevent them.

For everyday people, this means knowing how to care for life's common wounds properly. Simple steps like cleaning a cut, choosing the right dressing and watching for signs of infection can make the difference between quick healing and long-term impact.

For healthcare professionals, it means being supported with evidence-based tools, training and guidelines that ensure best practice wound management across different care settings. Together, clinicians and patients can break the cycle of chronic wounds.

A small wound doesn't have to become a big problem. Join us in raising awareness, acting and making wound care everybody's business.
