Tell your story to help Australia fight its chronic wound epidemic
Monday, 29 July 2024
Do you live with a long-lasting hard-to-heal wound? Do you care for someone who does? We’d love to hear from you.

Wound Awareness Week (2-8 September) is when we shine a spotlight on Australia’s chronic wound epidemic. Our Wound Champions are people from all walks of life who generously share their stories to show that chronic wounds can happen to anyone.

Are you:
  • A person living with conditions that affect circulation, such as diabetes or lymphoedema?
  • An older person living in an aged care setting, or the adult carer of an older person?
  • Someone with mobility issues at risk of pressure injury?
  • Experiencing slow recovery from an operation?
  • Anyone experiencing any kind of hard-to-heal wound, such as grazes, cuts or skin tears taking more than 30 days to clear up?
  • A wound care professional?
If so, please contact us for a confidential chat. Email comms@woundsaustralia.org or call 1800 870855 and ask for Emma Noble, Communications Director.

What does a Wound Champion do?

Wound Champions help us in these ways.

Sharing their story
This involves a short phone or email interview with Wounds Australia. We’ll write it up and send back for your approval before publishing in our News Centre. You can use your full name (or not) and supply pictures (or not). If you have a business to promote, we will be happy to credit it.

Giving interviews to media
We build awareness of chronic wounds by telling as many stories as we can to the greatest number of people. This is where our journalist friends help, by taking our stories to their audiences. If you have something to say about your wound journey, we’ll find the right opportunity for you – from your local paper to national radio and TV!

Showing their support on social media
If you want to help raise awareness of the 450,000 Australians living with a chronic wound just like you, please share our images in social media or display a poster in your workplace. Thanks for your support!
