A national day to spotlight leg swelling, every February.

Swollen legs have many causes – and often serious consequences. Join us for the very first Beat the Swell Day on 19 February 2026 to explore why legs and feet swell, where to seek help when they do, and how you can Beat the Swell!

Did you know...

Venous leg ulcers affect around 10–20 people per 1,000 during their lifetime.

Chronic venous insufficiency affects 1–2 people per 1,000.

Up to 50% of venous ulcers are unhealed after 9 months, and 1 in 3 patients experiences recurring ulcers.

Despite these numbers from the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery, many individuals with lower limb conditions don't receive the care they need. That's why Beat the Swell, a new awareness and education initiative, is shining a spotlight on prevention, early detection, and effective treatment of lower limb conditions.

About Beat the Swell Day

National Beat the Swell Day takes place on the third Thursday of February every year. It is an education and awareness campaign targeting clinicians and patients with resources emphasising warning signs, the benefits of early intervention and sources of professional support.

Check back for updates, event details, and other opportunities to get involved. Whether you're a clinician, carer, patient or advocate, Beat the Swell welcomes you to join the movement for healthier legs and better lives.
